Obituary of Joseph Leo Skupien

Joseph Leo Skupien, loving father of three sons, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019 at the age of 84 in his home in Seminole, Florida. He had recently moved to Seminole from New Port Richey where he had resided for 16 years.

Joseph was born on July 3, 1935 in Chicago, IL and is the ninth in his family of ten siblings to pass. He is survived by his sister, Jeanne Skupien Krupa and husband Edwin (Burbank, IL); son Edward and wife Mary; son Matthew and wife Joann; son John and wife Stephanie; nieces, nephews and one grandchild, Tamitha.

Joseph was surrounded by his sons and their wives at his time of passing, following a long battle with cancer.

Joe was a kind and gentle man with a good sense of humor who lived a full and grateful life. His faith in God kept him content regardless of circumstances throughout his life. He was a generous man who never hesitated to help others and was always filled with peace and serenity. He had a natural creativity and humbleness in all things he set out to accomplish, whether feeding the hungry from his hot dog stand or giving his hand-made crosses to Hospice. Joe was truly a kind and genuine person and loved spending time with his family. We will miss his love, counsel, and friendship but he will remain in our hearts forever.

A ceremony will be held at Bay Pines Veterans Cemetery 10000 Bay Pines Blvd St. Petersburg, Florida on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. honoring Joseph’s military service to our country. All attendees should plan to meet at the round-about near the cemetery office for procession to the interment site.

In lieu of flowers, it was Joe’s wishes to send donations to Suncoast Hospice. The Hospice doctors, nurses and staff provided Joseph and his family care and comfort in his last days.
