Obituary of Margie K. Johnson

Margie Kathryn Johnson, 94, of Seminole, and resident of Madeira Beach for 33 years, passed away March 21, 2020.   Devoted wife of Ralph Johnson for 64 years and mother of 6 children. She was born in Granite Falls NC on May 4, 1925, and they met as teenagers at a diner in Hickory NC.  Ralph served in the Navy in 1944 during WWII and on the first crew of the USS Midway. They lived in Hickory NC, then St. Petersburg FL during the 1950's.  Her husband managed the Montgomery Wards store downtown on 4th st in St. Pete.  They settled in Wheaton IL just west of Chicago for over 30 years and raised 3 boys and 3 girls.  Margie loved being a Mom.  She was the personification of unconditional love, sincerity and thoughtfulness to others. She was a true friend, sister and loving Mom to all those who knew her.  She wrote letters and cards, and made phone calls everyday to let her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, friends and neighbors know that she remembered them.  On a birthday, anniversary or if you were going through difficulty you always got a card, letter or phone call from her.  She was known for her immaculate home, hospitality and incredible skills in the kitchen.  She volunteered at the library during grade school, middle school, and high school.  She was the first soccer mom. Only with us it was baseball, basketball and football.  She loved being involved.  They attended Glen Ellyn Covenant Church for 30 years while they lived in Wheaton IL.  After moving to Madeira Beach she attended Faith Presbyterian Church in Seminole and Palm Lake Christian Church in Saint Petersburg.  She is survived by 6 children son Michael (wife B-Ann), daughter Rica (husband Bob), daughter Cindy, son Duane (wife Leslie), daughter Becky, son Todd, her siblings, JoAnne Yount and David Smith, as well as 11 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. A Celebration of her life will be held at 3pm on Margie’s 95th birthday, May 4, 2020.at Palm Lake Christian Church (5401 22nd Ave. N. St. Petersburg, FL 33710).  In lieu of flowers please send donations to Veterans charities or Palm Lake Christian Church.
