I grew up across the street from the VanSteenburgs....and would visit with Mrs. VanSteenburg long after my own kids were grown, when I returned home to visit my folks. Mrs. V. was one of the kindest people I've ever known and truly loved the Lord! I remember stopping with my family on vacation in NC one time to visit both she and Mr. VanSteenburg at their "cabin". It was literally up on top of a mountain! I was blessed to have known them both and know she will be greatly missed by her family!!!

Condolences to the VanSteenburg family.
I never knew Dorothy on a first-name basis - she was always "Mrs. VanSteenburg" - my 8th grade English teacher at Meadowlawn Junior High School in St. Petersburg. She was able to remarkably control a classroom of unruly 13 year-olds while teaching the finer points of English and prose. Mrs. VanSteenburg was firm, but she demonstrated a gentle kindness and fairness to students. She was respected by the students, who all knew that her classroom was not the place to be acting out.
Fifteen years later, I was working at the Pinellas County Health Department, where I met Bob VanSteenburg. Sure enough, his lovely bride was "Mrs. VanSteenburg"...a small world.
Bob was also a kind soul, and it is comforting that they are reunited again. May they rest in eternal peace.
