Obituary of Jean S. Gill

Jean Shields Gill, 74, of Largo, Florida passed away August 12, 2020 at Suncoast Hospice Care Center Pinellas Park, Florida. Jean was born in Long Island, New York on February 24, 1946 and raised in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. She attended Hahnemann Medical School and Hospital in Philadelhia, Pennsylvania, Howard Community College, Columbia Maryland, University of Baltimore, and University of South Florida. Jean successfully bred and showed pure bred Boxer dogs in American Kennel Club confirmation and Obedience trials. She enjoyed traveling, walking, reading, gardening, and living in Florida. She was an active of member of St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church of Largo, Florida, former member of the Tampa Bay Boxer Club, former member of the Seminole-SPC Toastmaster Club, and the Florida State Representative for NEADS, Dogs for Deaf and Disabled Americans. Jean is survived by loving husband Ronald Gill, children Maureen Nixon (Ed Nixon), Nora Jean Shields, and grandchildren Alexandra Elizabeth Shields, Brittany Jean Nixon, and Jamie Lynn Laudani. She was preceded in death by her late husband Jerome P. Shields, and parents David Petrie Thornton and Catherine Thornton. Jean’s friends have described her as steadfast, one who enjoyed life and learning new things. Funeral services for Jean S. Gill will be at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church 9111 90th Ave, Largo, FL 33777 on Saturday August 22, 2020 at 11:00AM with Father Tom Anastasia officiating.
