Obituary of Peter Damian Mooney

Peter Damian Mooney Born April 2nd, 1948 - Died January 12th, 2017 Peter is survived by his wife of 40 years, Robin Gail, whom he loved deeply and remained dedicated to until the last moment of his life. His sons Damien Thomas Mooney (wife - Carolyn), Brian Patrick Mooney, and his daughter Jennifer Ann Mooney Etringer (husband - Matthew), along with two grandsons, Chase Etringer and Dylan Collins bear his loss with dignity. He is survived by his eight siblings: Paulette, Andra, Josephine, Philip, Claire, James, Regina, and Jeanette. Together with their spouses and children, the family members all share in the deep sadness his death has caused. Peter was a proud and patriotic American. He expressed his love for his parents and in-laws by tenderly caring for them, and was a great brother and a faithful friend to many. He had a deep sense of honor, loyalty, and duty which he passed down to family members. He was a life-long nature lover and explored his world with joy. A favorite saying of his was, "Time spent in the woods is always time well spent." He studied local habitats, often discovering long lost histories and artifacts such as arrowheads in Alley Pond Park and fossils along the coasts and rivers of Florida. Many of his precious finds were donated to local historical societies, environmental centers, and schools. He leaves his family and friends with a greater appreciation for the Earth and its many wonderful gifts, especially the birds of the sky. Peter will be remembered in the soaring wings of the Red Tailed Hawk and the wise eyes of the Great Horned Owl. He will remain forever in our hearts. Peter's wake will be held at Gleason's Funeral Home, 10-25 150th Street, Whitestone, New York, on Thursday January 26th (2pm-5pm) and (7pm-10pm) and the funeral mass at St. Luke's Church in Whitestone on Friday, January 27th at 10:15AM.
