Obituary of Audrey Bertie Stone

Audrey Bertie Stone, aged 85, died peacefully on January 18, 2017 at the Mid-Pinellas Hospice Care Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. Audrey was born on April 9, 1931, in Orlando, Florida, the daughter of Mae and Herbert Harris of Savanah, Georgia. Audrey was a devout Christian who had a deep abiding love of God the Father, our Savior Jesus Christ and her faith was very strong. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16 and her favorite hymn was "How Great Thou Are". She loved all kinds of music and can be quoted as saying to her granddaughter, "I would like to share all the music of the world with you, for every song, hymn, orchestrated piece brings joy, happiness, love, peace and comfort to each of us." As a child, Audrey grew up in a small modest home in Florida with her three sisters and one brother. She loved the outdoors and spent most of her free time playing with her siblings in their front yard or just sitting on the front porch watching the Spanish moss that hung from the cypress trees blow around in the breeze. During summer months they would often go swimming in the lake at the end of their road or pick wild blueberries and lemons in the fields that surrounded her childhood home. After graduating from Orlando Senior High and while working in a Ladies Dress Shop, Audrey began dating her sweetheart, Guy C. Stone Jr., who she had known since 9th grade. They were married the following year on October 16, 1950 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Their favorite song was from the movie Dr. Zhivago "Somewhere My Love-Laura's Theme". They were happily married for 46 years and had two children and one granddaughter. Family was the most important element in Audrey's life. She had a great love for her children and granddaughter and enjoyed spending time with them. Her favorite hobby was gardening and she would spend many a weekend working on her flower beds. In addition to raising her two children, Audrey had many different jobs throughout her lifetime but her favorite job was working side by side with her husband in their television/appliance store in St. Petersburg, Florida which they owned for over 13 years. Audrey is survived by her son, Guy C. Stone III; of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter Sharon L. Whitehouse, son in-law Craig S. Whitehouse and granddaughter Colleen E. Whitehouse of Seminole, FL; three nephews; and a number of other relatives and close friends. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at Bay Pines National Cemetery on February 9th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to the Jewish Family Services Gulf Coast, 14041 Icot Blvd., Clearwater Florida (727-479-1800).
