Obituary of James R. Scott

James Robert Scott, "Jim" 78, of Largo, Florida has released his grip on this earthly existence and entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on February 11, 2009. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Nancy Jane Scott. Also surviving are his three children James Robert, Jr, Debbie and her husband Steve, Jeffrey and his wife Suzanne, and a gaggle of grandchildren: Jamie, Jesse, Daniel, John-Michael, Sara, Kyle, Grayson, and Judah. He is also survived by his brother Robert Schott and his wife Linda, his sister Blanche Taylor and her husband Cliston, as well as a score of nieces and nephews. Jim was born in Venice, Florida, November 12, 1930 one of seven children of Obie and Stiles Scott. A True native Floridian, Jim loved the ocean and spent many a lazy afternoon in his youth swimming and fishing. As a young man he attended Clearwater High School while also working in the family business, Fashion Cleaners. In his twenties Jim served two years in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged. Jim and Nancy were united in holy matrimony on June 21, 1958 and celebrated their 50th Anniversary at their beloved home in North Carolina last summer with family and friends. Jim and Nancy founded their own dry cleaning business in 1964; Scott's Custom Cleaners of Belleair Bluffs, Florida, which remained in the family until it was sold in 2005. Jim and Nancy spent their recent years traveling across the Continental United States and Alaska in their motorhome. He loved to fish and boat, explore the natural wonders of our earth and to spend time with his family. He also loved to cheer the Florida Gators to victory. As a father and husband he was exceptionally kind, devoted, and gentle. He was a man of honor and integrity in his business dealings. Jim was a charter member of Christ Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and deacon. He was a member of the Belleair Bluffs business association participating in professional organizations and services his community through Sertoma.
