He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Margaret "Peggy", a daughter Beverly, and a son-in-law Paul Nancy Williams. Born in Arapahoe, NC, February 7, 1917, he had 6 brothers and sisters. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1935. A member of the 1938 commissioning crew of the USS Enterprise, CV6, based in Honolulu, HI, he was aboard the ship on December 7th, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He remembered there was a rainbow in the sky over the ship that morning, as Enterprise slipped into Pearl after the attack. This was a sight repeated on so many occasions after "close calls" during the war. He served aboard for six years and retired a Chief Petty Officer, boiler technician. After surviving tuberculosis at the end of the war, Scotty returned to NC with wife Peggy and children "Jim" and "Bev", where he graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Business and retired from the Navy, in 1955. He went on to pursue a 27 year, second career, as a Claims Auditor for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC. He was a member of North Chapel Hill Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and "made a joyful noise" in the choir for many years. An avid UNC Basketball fan, he also enjoyed being outdoors, fishing with Peggy, gardening and golf. He loved friends and family. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. In 2005, he and Peggy moved to St Petersburg FL. He is survived by his children James M. "Jim" Scott of Kennesaw, GA, daughter Nancy S. Williams, St Petersburg, FL, daughter-in-law Fran Scott, St Petersburg, FL; grandchildren Megan Charlie Broderick, St Petersburg, FL, Erin Tobias Susin, Kennesaw, GA, Matthew S. Williams, St Petersburg, FL, Andrew J. Williams, St Petersburg, FL, a great-grandchild due in October, Kennesaw, GA, and a very special caregiver and beloved friend, Linda Scott, St Petersburg, FL; numerous nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends, whose lives he touched. A man of high honor and unwavering faith, Scotty never met a stranger.
