Cathy and family,
I was shocked and sad to hear about your husband and father's death.
I was unable to attend the service because of a previous engagement, but I am sure it was beautiful.
After reading the articles in the paper and this guestbook, I think you probably had quite a celebration of his life at Gators. I didn't know him, but from all I have read it sounds like he enjoyed life to the fullest and I believe he enjoyed watching as you celebrated his life at Gators.
Cathy, I wanted to send a sympathy card, but couldn't find your address so I decided to contact you this way.
I can't imagine what you are going through, but I sincerely want you to know I am sorry for your loss and I am thinking of you and your girls.

Cathy,
Our hearts go out to you and yours as we say farewell to Larry -- much too soon. He was a giant of a man. He taught me sometimes in spite of myselfhow to be a member of the Army Reserve Family. His vision, determination, and skill underlie much of the USARâ??s success in Desert Shield/Storm. His contributions to our Army and the Nation continue today in the performance of the troops he loved and worked so hard for over a long and distinguished career. He was an exceptional soldier, a great friend, and a genuinely good man. We shall all miss him greatly.

Hey Huffy,
Just thought we'd drop you a note letting you know that the ducks and geese are starting to return to MI. The weather up here has been really lousy. Lot's of rain and cold winds that would be great for duck hunting If it was Nov.We've been special friends since we were kids and some of our best times together were usually in the duck marsh at Shiawassee Flats. You took us duck hunting for our very first time, and it became a lifetime of memories that you, Linda and I will always remember. We had so many times together!hunts well into the hundreds I'm sure--fishing trips--camping trips--playing baseball--football and just experiencing the joys and pains of growing up and living our lives as best friends It will take a major bullshit session at a later date to rehash it all.Coming this fall and all the falls to come, we know you'll be hunting with us !!-just like the old days. This isn't goodbye--it's just a passing of time until we're together again in some other great duck marshWhich I,m sure you're already checking out, yet unknown to Linda and myself.Until Then,You'll be with us in everything we do.

Larry was my mentor, friend, and comrade in arms. He was bigger than life, always full of bravado, and only had one speed WFO. Since we both retired I would see him each year in Florida around Presidents Day. After a few minutes together it was like we were both still in the Pentagon working those days that seemed like they would never end. Larry made things happen and if he told you something was going to happen take it to the bank it would happen. He was a great husband, father, soldier, sailor, and friend. All of us who had the pleasure of knowing "Huffy" now can take solice in the fact that we all have a new Guardian Angel but this one wears a Green Beret. Larry, God bless you and grant you calm seas and prevailing winds as you sail west.

Words are difficult right now but I wish to thank all who have shared their memories of my brother and given testiment to his life and how he touched yours. He taught me so much from early on. Many of the lessons had to do with being tough and holding my own.
He could always make us laugh with his stories and even though he had a big growl, his heart was so much bigger as was his generousity. I know he's home with the others who departed before him, those he missed and grieved for, however that does little to ease the pain and grief of his sudden departure. I know for myself it has been an honor and a blessing to share what we had for the time we had. Be at peace my brother.

Cathy and Family,
I want to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. Larry was a remarkable man that deeply touched everyone with his kindness and advice.
As others have said, Larry lived a century of life in only 61 years. I have only known Larry for the last year and a half. In that short time we worked together and enjoyed many hunting trips and I feel I have known him my entire life. We have all lost a great friend and buddy. He is now moving on to another station where he can see old friends and be welcomed by others.

We weep with you Cath, Michelle and Margo but smile knowing Larry's home in heaven and the stars spell out his name.
The sound of Larry's voice, the strength of his hands, the kindness in his eyes and the comfort of his commanding presence made our cousin and lifetime friend almost seem bigger than life. From childhood play on grandpa's farm, to sparring over who was right, to hunting water and land, Larry's stubborn honesty made him part of us. Best man in our wedding he stood tall. Husband, father and grandfather, he loved and lived passionately. Protector of country he was courageous, respected and dignified.
Larry lives on in our hearts. His love, teaching, frankness, friendship, honesty and tears help us see beyond the visible to the invisible, and will keep our hearts connected.
There are no more words, just memories; enough memories and joy in what remains behind to take us to the finish line. Until we meet again, we will love and miss you deeply. Thanks for the memories and all that lies beyond.

When I think of Larry, I will always remember the words he wrote:
"You have never lived until you have almost died. For those that fight for it, life has a flavor the protected will never know."
Larry had that "flavor" for life and truly lived life to the fullest. Our lives are all so much richer because he was part of them.
Larry and Cathy were always there for me and provided a safe haven after I lost my husband, George. I will forever cherish the memories of all the holiday dinners we shared together and cooking with Huffy!
My heartfelt sympathy and love go out to Cathy, Michelle, and Margot.

Condolences to the family.
I will always think of Larry as a dear friend of mine since 1992 when we first met each other during a Kingfish tournament organizational meeting.
From there we worked hand in hand building Treasure Island charities, fishing together and solving most of the worlds problems. Larry helped make me a better person. He was loud in voice, opinionated and at the same time a "big teddy bear" of a man! I will always love him for what he stood for and what he taught me. We did not always agree with each other but somehow worked together to compromise a solution.
Kay and my two sons, Ryan & Kevin were his friends also and feel the same way as I do.
Larry was a very bright person who earned my resect for him and his abilities very fast. He was a "doer" and I can assure Cathy he will be fast to do things in heaven!
He just left us entirely too early! I know he is looking over us and making plans to help all his friends in some way. His memories in my mind will always make me a better person. I have many great stories that I will continue to tell about our experiences together and his life adventures.
Regrets,
Terry Farner & Kay Farner
