Obituary of Clayton R. Sweetland

Sweetland, Clayton R., 91, of Seminole, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009. He was born in Derby, NY and came here in 1980 from Hamburg, NY, where he was a charter member of Wayfarers Masonic Lodge. He was a machinist, the owner and operator of a truck stop, and a home builder in New York, and then moved to Northern Ontario, Canada and was the owner and operator of Clay's Camp Obabika Resort. He retired in Hamburg, NY as the Supervisor of the recreation facility. For many years, he was the Fire Chief of the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company in Hamburg where he was the town coordinator and was responsible for training the paramedics. He was also a life member of their Exempts Benevolent Association. He loved boating and fishing, especially ice fishing, snowmobiling, golfing, football and sports, and he was a member of the Pinochle Club. Locally, he was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Seminole where he was very active in the Properties Ministry. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis B. Sweetland; his daughter and her husband, Sandy & Pete Seadeek of St. Charles, MO; his son and his wife, Randy & Mary Sweetland of Marco Island, FL; 3 grandchildren, Megan Sweetland, Ryan Sweetland, and Matt Tracy Seadeek; and 1 great grandson, Nick Mason. He was predeceased by his parents, Ray & Hilda Sweetland and his brother, George Sweetland. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 20, 2009 at Faith Presbyterian Church in Seminole.
