Obituary of Gloria L. Vlnicka

Vlnicka, Gloria, 85, known by many as Babe, Ronnie, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, and Mrs. V., passed peacefully to our Lord on Saturday, June 13th in St. Petersburg. Gloria, who has lived in Treasure Island with her daughter since 2006, was born and raised in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Carmen and Angelina Renella and sister of John and Frank. As part of the "Greatest Generation" to ever live, Gloria's love of life journeyed from the challenges of the Great Depression and WW II to the happiness of marriage, raising a family and having a career. Gloria was very much involved in her children's lives, enjoyed a passion for her Italian traditions, and relished the fun and excitement of exploring new casinos. She was an avid cat lover and enjoyed the companionship of many kitties. The joy of retirement and travel with her husband Ed was best known by their trips on Amtrak railroad going coast to coast visiting family and friends. A family trip to Italy in June, 2008, visiting her ancestral home was the highlight of her golden years. Gloria lived life surrounded with love from her family including her brother, Frank Renella and his wife Shirley; her 5 children, Sharon Lilliston, Janice Spahn and Fiancé Mark England, Peggy Watrous and husband Patrick, Ed Vlnicka and wife Sharon, John Vlnicka and wife Terri; her grandchildren, Christopher Mullinix, Dana Jaugilas and husband Bruno Gilmore, Kathy Barry and husband Conor, Laura Minton and husband Greg, Allison, Erin and Brian Vlnicka, Tracy Vlnicka and fiancé Spencer LaFasto, and her great grandchildren Kaija Jaugilas, Rachel and Nathan Barry, Lillian Minton and Abigail Murphy; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Every day she lived was truly a special one…every life she touched was truly blessed. All who knew her will truly miss her. Gloria now joins her husband Ed of 55 years, her parents, and her brother John in eternal life. In celebration of her life, services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Central Christian Church, 6161 22nd Avenue North, St. Petersburg. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in Gloria's name to the H. Lee Moffitt Research Institute in appreciation of their dedication to the cure of cancer.
