Obituary of Doreen Violet Ryan

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our family matriarch, artist and activist, Doreen Violet Ryan, on the 6th of January, 2024, at her home on Indian Rocks Beach, Florida surrounded by her devoted family. Born in London, England on the 28th of January 1935, she survived diphtheria, the Nazi Blitz of her home during WWII, and a move to countryside for her protection and that of children arriving on orphan trains. In 1957, she moved to the United States, never to become a citizen, but joining the Civil Rights Movement, and raising her children. Doreen's life was one punctuated with a passion for social justice, music, art, and culture. Her existence elevated every branch of our lives, from helping others and standing up for what is right, to caring for her family and taking in stray animals. Doreen's unwavering love for all creatures great and small will be most missed. Doreen is survived by her loving daughters Corrine Ryan (husband Howard Nemovitz) St. Petersburg Beach, Adele Gilmore (husband Will Fluman) St. Petersburg, Andrea Ryan, Anderson, Indiana, and Cara Ryan (partner Blaine Christian) of Indian Rocks Beach. She also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Alan Nemovitz, Steven Ryan Gilmore, Samantha Victoria Hunter, Aaron James Gilmore, Jerome Lee and Elizabeth Devore; great grandchildren: Lucas Hunter, Jack and Stella Nemovitz; nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom, along with several friends, family, and admirers from many great nations around the globe Funeral Services are on Saturday at Reese Funeral Home 5 p.m. A Celebration of Life on the 28th of Jan. (her 89th birthday) is at the Chattaway at 5:30 p.m.
