Obituary of Dorothy Jane Pohlman

Dorothy Jane (Dearie) Pohlman, “Dottie”, age 80 of St Petersburg, FL, passed away peacefully the morning of April 10, 2024 surrounded by family and her loyal caregiver. She was born October 13, 1943 to the late Gerald & Mildred (White) Dearie, sharing a happy childhood with her 2 sisters and her late brother Jerry; she spent most of her young years in Chicago then in Lake Zurich, IL. On June 16, 1963 she married Stuart Ray Pohlman who proceeded her in death on January 7, 2022.

Dorothy had a full happy life; she was a fantastic mom, Nana & Grand Nana, a devoted wife, and always had the sweetest disposition, just like her mom, which made her a great friend and person to be around – she always looked at the positive in any situation. Dorothy graduated from Ela Vernon High School in Lake Zurich, Class of ’61, and went on to hold many different career positions, cosmetologist, bookstore owner, licensed realtor, office manager, grant administrator at California Institute of the Arts, and volunteer greeter at St Anthony Hospital in St Petersburg. Dorothy was also active in the Order of Eastern Star and the Lake Zurich Fire Dept. Women’s Auxiliary.

Dorothy is survived by her devoted son Stuart W. (Heather) Pohlman, and daughter Gina (Bill) Harris, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two loving sisters Donna Bickel & Barbara Gaynor and many nieces & nephews. Dorothy is going to be sorely missed by All. She was taken from us earlier than she should have been by multiple myeloma, which she battled like a champion.

A private family service will be held at a later date in Lake Zurich, IL where she will be buried next to her husband.
