Obituary of Elizabeth S. Houk

Elizabeth "Betty" S. Houk 93, long time resident of Ellwood City, passed away May 10, 2010 at Palm Garden of Largo. Betty was born December 12, 1916 in Monaca, PA to John and Mary Shoen. She resided in Ellwood City from 1939-1998, then moving to Madeira Beach, Florida. She married the late Paul R. Houk (1918-1978) on July 29th, 1939. Betty was an active member of Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was employed at G.C. Murphy Company for 23 years, working as a store clerk. She was an accomplished singer and whistler, and her grandchildren adored her fantastic cooking skills - especially her Chinese chicken, spaghetti sauce, and daily lunch specials such as peanut butter and chicken noodle soup. She was always very neat in appearance and had a kind word to say. Commitment to faith and family was simply who she was. She is survived by her two sons Clyde "C.W." Houk and Paul "Jaybird" Houk, daughter-in-laws Mary Jane "M.J." Houk and Del Smith, five grandchildren including Jeff Houk, Dave houk, Tim Houk, Michelle Houk, and Jennifer Houk, as well as several great and great-great grandchildren.
