Obituary of James Robert VanSteenburg

James Robert VanSteenburg, Senior was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on November 21, 1939. He grew up in a Christian home with loving parents, Dorothy & Robert VanSteenburg. He met Esther in 1961 and they were married on June 9, 1963. Sherry was born to James & Esther in 1964, and James, Jr. was born in 1972. John became a member of the family in 1983 when he became best friends with James and later came to live with the VanSteenburgs to continue his education in St. Petersburg, Florida. James served in the Army National Guard and was the President of the first FAEMT organization in the state of Florida. He was also the owner and operator of JRV's Lawn Service for 40 years. He served his community well, as he beautified lawns and business properties throughout the Seminole area. James gave his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was a long standing member of Bay Ridge Baptist Church where he served in the audio/sound ministries for several years. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren: Erica, Michael, Nicholas, Kobus, Kai, Koen, Jonathan, Jordan, and Charity. He was the great grandfather of two. James is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Esther; his mother, Dorothy VanSteenburg of Largo, Florida; his three children, Sherry, a daughter married to Myron Speigel of Dunnellon, Florida, James, married to Samantha, who reside in Niceville, Florida, and John, married to Tammy, who live in Smyrna, Tennessee, as well as his nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. We rejoice in his Heavenly graduation, but we grieve in his Earthly separation. He will be missed and remembered. We have great love and respect for our husband, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. We are honored to have known him, and it is our privilege to love him still, and look forward to the day we are reunited for eternity in our Heavenly home.
