Obituary of Eldon B Turner

Turner, Eldon B., 87, of Largo, FL, formerly of Avon, CT, beloved husband of the late Claire (McGuire) Turner, died May 29, 2010. Don was born July 31, 1922 in Port Elgin, New Brunswick, son of the late Herbert and Lottie (Sanford) Turner. He graduated from Bulkeley High School and the University of Connecticut, College of Agriculture. Don was a WWII Navy veteran, serving with distinction on P.T. boats in the Pacific. He was an accomplished landscape architect, establishing both Turner Landscape Contracting Company and Laurel Landscape, and was responsible for the landscape design and/or planting of many well known landmarks in the Hartford area. Don was predeceased by his brothers, Wilbur Turner and Harry Burgess. He leaves his four loving children, Carol Lummis of Berlin, CT, Mark Turner and wife Maria of Madeira Beach, FL, Eileen Woodward of Hampton, CT, and Anne Clubb and husband Jonathan of Bloomfield, CT. Don also leaves five grandchildren, Shanna Lambis, Ogden Lummis, Dawn Van Hoose, Joshua Woodward and Brady Woodward, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Avenue, Bloomfield, CT. A calling hour from 9-10 a.m. will precede the Mass. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park, 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research, 22512 Gateway Center Drive, Clarksburg, MD 20871.
