George will be greatly missed by everyone in our family. Over the past twelve years he has become an integral part of our family. He loved my Mother very much. Those who knew George will recall the pride he had in his work, heritage and family. George loved his dog Candy, she was his comfort and joy.
George enjoyed to play card games and taught my children how to play rummy. We spent a lot of time together playing cards and dominos. We have good memories. God bless. We love you George.

I had visited with George many times while he was in Florida with my mother. I always knew he was caring person which will always inspire me. One time I remember well was George talking about a substantial donation that was made to the VFW. As he talked of this gracious donation he "choked up" because he felt very deeply about the warmth and kindness of such generosity. It was as if I was instantly transported to this wonderful compassionate side of life that these words could never adequately describe. It was a beautiful timeless moment that made me feel part of something very big. He was so real to me in that moment that it never left me. I could feel that compassion in his heart he was so willing to share at that precious point of celestial remembrance. Beautiful and Unforgettable. Rest in Peace George!

Smitty will be greatly missed. I wish he could have known his granddaughters, Catie and Caroline...he would have really enjoyed them. I miss Smitty calling me on my birthday and playing happy birthday for me on his organ. He was very good at it. We use to have so much fun at Dyer Lk. We would send Todd and Eric to stay with them and the four of them had so much fun together. I remember Smitty calling me and telling me he had to crack Todd on the bottom for standing up in the boat. I told him good, he knew the rules and broke one. The boys learned so much with their Prampaw/Paddy at Dyer Lk. They had such great adventures and learned something new each time we would go, as Todd use to say it, "Up The North". When they moved to FL my Todd wanted to buy their place with Eric because of all the fond memories they have of Dyer Lk. with their prampaw and grandma. But they were too young.
Smitty and mom would come to visit and stay for six weeks at a time in the summer and Smitty just loved swimming in our pool and jumping off the diving board in silly ways to make everyone laugh.
Ed and I were looking for a way to get down to FL this winter and were hoping to visit with him and Cathy. I wish we could have.
He use to teach the boys how to shoot the chippers, as they called them. I guess they were constantly getting in their house. The boys loved it! Eric was still in a highchair and playpen when we started going up there. It was always so pieceful. They had great neighbors up there that we would get together with too. We always played cards.
Smitty did a great job on building their place. They loved it so much on Dyer Lk.
You will be missed Smitty. Luv, Diane

I didn't get to meet George and Cathy until I moved to Wesley Chapel in 2003. The three of us hit it off right away, at first we would meet at the club house to play pinochle together. Then we would meet at their house to play. Ann and I always enjoyed the time we spent with George and Cathy either playing cards our going out to dinner. I knew he liked to play golf and fish so we did get to go fishing together, he had a good time and even caught a couple of fish. One time we were fishing off of a gazebo in Land O Lakes when George looked up and informed me that we were fishing next to a nudist resort called Caliente. We left almost right away. Golf would have been a little much for him. I spent a lot of time at their house helping out when ever I could. I also was able to put some of his memories down on their computer so don't forget to look for that. He would sit in a chair and tell stories about his early years and I would enter them on the computer. Once they moved to Pinellas Park I didn't get to visit as much as I wanted to. Then we moved to Ocala and I hardly ever got to see him again. I thought about him often and I have many memories of him so he will always be in my heart and my prayers.

George has always been good to my Grandmother, and has made her happy.... Not to mention all of the valuable wisdom he has shared with me and my family. George was the one who first taught me to golf and showed me how angry to get when you wack a ball into "the soup". Though, i only knew him for a decade, he has made a lasting impression on all of our live and will be missed.......RIP George......

I will always cheris the memories of spending summers with Grandma and Grandpa at Dyer Lake. I talk to people today and tell them things I heard and learned from Grandpa. Thank You Grandpa for the lessons that have made me who I am today. You will always be a part of me. I'm still trying to figure out how snake hunting with a hoe is a lesson but I'm sure it is. You will always be a part of me.

Some of my best childhood memories are with Grandpa Smith out at Dyer Lake. For as long as I remember, he took me & my brothers out to his cabin every Summer for fun. Even though I was adopted, he always treated me like I was as special as all his other grandkids. Grandpa was always fun, and always had something to for us to do... He taught me how to fish, how to play cards (usually "screw your neighbor"), how to swear (when I beat him at cards), and how to work. Once he even tried to set me up on a date with a local Dyer Lake girl... You don't know awkward until you've been a teenager on a double-date with your Grandpa and his hunting buddy Aldo, who also happens to be your date's grandpa; can't imagine why it didn't work out...
His kindness and compassion got me through some tough times growing up and helped make me the man I am today. I know he's in heaven and I can't wait to see him again.

I remember visiting George in Michigan and Florida and listening to him play his fancy organ and sing to us. He loved playing cards and telling stories. He will always hold a special place in my heart.

George always sang 'The Wind Beneath My Wings' as I played piano when he came to visit us. I'll cherish the memories of the many card games we played and his infectious smile and laughter when him and Donie 'table talked'! You'll forever be in my heart.
