The funniest Bud did was to saw a hole in the wall to connect platemaking and the print shop. He, of course never told us about it. We just saw the saw coming through the wall. Anything to speed things up !!!! A few times I cried at work. Bud told me to go home after my kids father died. He said Terry will pay you, so take the time off. We were all like family. I was so grateful to Terry when he asked me if I wanted full time. My family and I had a nice life because of VP. I'm sure a lot of people are thankful to have had the caring people we had, like Terry Annie and Bud. We had a lot of fun too,the Friday night happy hours etc. for one. I'm glad we got to Bud's farewell. I'll remember him as one of the good guys. RIP Bud----Pat Hintz

I remember Bud as a caring sensitive person, when I started at VP in 1973 I worked in his departments as well as others, he was always there for for me and in later years he helped me out several times when I worked overtime hours he delivered dinner to my kids and just to let you know during troubling times in my divorce Bud lent me his gun for protection (ha ha) Tammie Peters

Bud was my brother-in-law, but was more like a brother to me than an in-law. I was in my 20's when married my sister, and he and I both worked here at ValPak. He was in management, and I was just starting out. How do I discribe the warm and friendly relationship we had? During our lifetime we meet and enjoy many people along the way. But there are few who really speak something into our lives, or that we allow
to guide us, or mentor us in a very special way. Bud was such a person to me. When he gave me advice, I listened. He loved his work, and I loved listening to him talk about it. He was well loved as a Supervisor and VP at ValPak. He loved taking young people, and teaching them about 'work ethics.' At work he was respected because he got results, but there was always time for a smile and a laugh. When he wasn't working, he was a big "Cut Up," and enjoyed teasing me as much as anything else!! He would get that twinkle in his eyes, and I would think, "Oh no, here it comes!" But he had a serious side too. We seemed to be on the same wave link, and he understood when things over whelmed me, and I needed to talk. If I was involved in a personal project, Bud was the first to ask if he could help. When I needed to borrow a tool, he never objected, but would remind me to use it safely and return it.! A few years ago, I received word he had some type of cancer. I just couldn't believe my ears when I heard the awful news. This kind of news, you never want to hear concerning a friend or loved one. I remember the helplessness I felt. The wanting to do something, but what? There was no controlling what he had. We could only pray and hope it would heal, and give him more years to be with us. I was privileged to be able to visit him often during the past year. He was happy, loved gardening, and loved the birds who came to live with him. We would sit on his patio and talk, and he always wanted to know about what was going on at ValPak. He had a special place for ValPak in his heart, and was glad it has continued to grow all these years. I miss you Bud. I miss your honesty, your open heart and compassion for others. I miss your sincerity, and the twinkle in your eyes. But most of all I miss our talks, our visits. God bless you. You will ever be in my family and my Heart.
Love Geri

If Bud had not done his job so well back in the early days of our company - I never would have had a good business back in Virginia or a chance to have the job I enjoyed so much here. Bud helped create a company culture of getting things done accurately and on time that has lasted more than four decades through many changes creating better lives for thousands of other good people. Rest in peace Bud! Joe Bourdow

Men like Bud are a rare breed. They get the job done and move on to the next task! I am honored to have met and worked with Bud for many years at Val Pak. He was the driving force behind the operation for many years. We shared some fun conversations about old cars. I gave him his first Hemmings Motor News catalogue and when I gave it to him he got the biggest smile on him face. He really enjoyed his old cars. RIP Bud.

Bud was one of the first people I met when I was first domiciled at Val Pak from the Post Office. I had a great working relationship with him over the years and always valued the honesty in our dealings. He would look out for Val Pak and I looked out for the Post Office. While at times we didn't agree we always worked things out and once it was done it was over. I couldn't have asked for a better person to be working with in that situation. I have many fond memories of him over the years. Once when I was driving home in the Vette I had I had a car tailgating me and at the light I jumped out at the light very mad only to find it was Bud laughing his butt off. Rest In Peace Bud

Bud was my manager when I became hired at Valpak. He was tough when it was necessary but a softie at heart. He never asked anyone to do anything that he wouldn't do himself. I remember that he always was available and often hands on. He taught me the meaning of work ethics that I still have today. Your starting time meant that you were at your station and working, and he often chanted "Busy hands are Happy hands!"
Such fond memories of a Super Man.
Rest in peace Bud knowing that you are remembered and loved by many.

Bud hired me at Val-Pak (along with some of my print shop classmates) while I was still a student at Dixie Hollins High. I started at the plant off 34th Street and then moved to the Park Street location. He was an honest boss and a great leader. Had a lot of fun working for Bud. A lot of people can't say that about their bosses. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I remember what stood out most about Bud was that he always got the job done. He always got the desired results. He always wanted to appear professional and all business but the fact was he cared about the people he worked with. He invested in them, in my case he took a chance on a 19 year old kid, gave me job, made sure I was out in time to get to class, accused me of "Breaking his stones" more than once and then ask how I was doing in school. He was my Boss, my mentor and friend.
I will miss him.

Bud was the person who interviewed me and hired me at ValPak 26 years ago. Bud wanted perfection, and as always anyone that worked for Bud strived for perfection. I remember one day I was moving a tractor trailer in our tight little parking area on park st. and when the trailer swung around it caught a car and kind of draged it for about 30 or 40 yards and pretty much totaled the car. I was sooooo scared to go tell Bud what had just happened. I entered his office and informed him on what I just did and what he said to me was " Well thats what the dumb shit gets for parking there" I almost wet myself. We also shared the same birthday September 13th, this was nice because I knew each year Bud and I would meet for a drink at the old park lounge. Rest in peace Bud. The Street family send there condolences to the entire Kalck family.

You could never tell Bud that something could not be done. He would always find a way to make it work and get it out on time. He was fantastic at getting it done and he blazed a path doing it. He was my mentor. For sixteen year we worked side by side. If you look at the success that Val-Pak shares today, you must think of three people. Terry, Annie, and Bud. Without the three of them Val-Pak would not exist today.
My condolences to his family. And to my friends who worked so hard together and now share their grief.
