Obituary of Dora Carter
CARTER, Dora
83. Native Staten Islander, passed Sunday, March 11, 2012. Mrs. Carter, a graduate of McKee High School, went on to work for Met Life Insurance until she retired. Following her late husband Eugene Carter's footsteps, Dora became a member of the Eastern Star, Beacon Light Chapter #75.
Residing in Dongan Hills for over 40 years, Mr. and Mrs. Carter relocated to Seminole, Florida in 2000. In Florida, Mrs. Carter became extremely active in the Faith Presbyterian Church, where she was a community volunteer for over 10 years. Assembling care packages for those in need around the globe, feeding the homeless, and helping ones in need were just some of what Mrs. Carter did for her community.
Mrs. Carter was also the Sunshine Committee Chairperson of the local AARP Chapter #2569. Dora is Survived by her two sisters Catherine Ann Giovanniello and Frances Nunez; 2 children Doreen Maresca and James Carter; daughter-in-law Maryann; 3 grandchildren, Mark Maresca and Jessica & James (Jr.) Carter. Visitation will be Thursday March 15 from 6-8pm and Friday 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Services will begin Saturday at 10:00am at the funeral home followed by interment at Garden Sanctuary Cemetery.
