Obituary of Melford Johnson

Dr. Melford Johnson died peacefully on April 14th, 2012 at the Villas of Belleair, after a lengthy illness. He was born on August 4, 1918 in Warren, PA. Surviving him are his wife of 66 years, Anna R. Johnson; and sons, Richard (Valerie) & Randall (Pamela). He leaves four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ivan & Lena; daughters, Carol & Cathy; brother, Richard; and sister, Marjorie Johnson. He graduated from Penn State University and Jefferson Medical School. He served during WW II as an officer in the Army Medical Corp. After the war, he became interested in Urology and completed a residency at the Mayo Clinic. He practiced in Toledo, Ohio for many years before moving to Florida. He worked at the V.A. Medical Center at Bay Pines for 8 years until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening his entire life and really enjoyed the long Florida growing season. He was a member of Anona United Methodist Church An informal reception to celebrate his life will be held at E. James Reese Funeral Home, 6767 Seminole Blvd., Seminole, FL on Thursday, April 19 from 4 - 6 PM. Dr. and Mrs. Johnson were active Tutors for children in their scholarship programs.
