Obituary of Melvin C. Jacobsen

JACOBSEN, Melvin C. 90, of St. Petersburg, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. Mr. Jacobsen was born on Feb. 23, 1919 in Philadelphia. Because he weighed only one pound and eight ounces at birth, he was considered a "teacup baby". Mr. Jacobsen moved to St. Petersburg in 1937. Mr. Jacobsen retired from as Building Inspector, City of St. Petersburg, in 1979. For many years he and his wife, Ruth, lived in Gulfport. They were avid travelers who toured all 50 states. Ruth preceded him in death in November, 2000. Mr. Jacobsen is survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mr. Jacobsen was a WWII veteran and a Mason. He was a member of the Mitchell Lodge No. 296 in Jenkintown, PA. for 65 years. Mr. Jacobsen lived an active life until he broke his hip two months ago. A memorial service is scheduled for 3 pm, Wednesday, June 10, at Reese Funeral Home, 391-9954. Because of the excellent care provided to Mr. Jacobsen by Hospice, memorial gifts should be directed to Hospice of the Florida Suncoast
