Obituary of Marvin H. Henderson

Henderson, Marvin H. Jr. "Papa" 94, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at St. Anthony's Hospital under the care of the ICU. A native of Tampa, the son of Roxanna and Marvin Henderson, he graduated from the University of Florida Go Gators class of 1938 and was also a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Lived and worked in Lakeland for FMC. During his term on the Lakeland City Commission from 1968 to 1975 and Mayor of Lakeland, 1970 to 1972, the Lakeland Civic Center was completed and the city was awarded All American City status. He was appointed by the Florida State Governor as the State Merit Council and was United Way President in Lakeland. Moved with FMC in 1975 to Portland, OR as the Manager of Industrial Relations until he retired after 41-years in 1982 and was a member of Portland OR Rotary Club. Moved to St Petersburg in 1996. He was an avid photographer and happiest when surrounded by his family and many friends. He was a Stephen Minister, involved with the St. Petersburg Alzheimer's Support Group and a member of the Riviera United Methodist Church. In 2002, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65-years to Geraldine Jeri. Survivors include his daughter, Deanna Jacobs; son, Butch Henderson; two grandchildren, Dee McMahon and Walter Fuller; and blessed with three great-grandchildren, Kendall, Sophia and Rory all of St. Petersburg. Memorial service to be held Thursday September 10, 11:00am at Riviera United Methodist Church, 175 62nd Ave N., St Petersburg, FL 33702. A reception will be held immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Marvin's honor to Riviera United Methodist Church.
