Papa John's basement was a wonderful place, I remember him teaching me how to play checkers, and story time with the little Golden Books was always a treat! He was quite a narrator...

I never heard my Papa John say a bad word. He was always careful not to say a lot of negative things about anybody. When he was upset or shocked, he would exclaim, "Son of a GUN!" and if something really bothered him, then he usually repeated it for emphasis, "Son of a Gun!!!!.... We'll I'll be a SON OF A GUN!!!!!". A true American gentleman!

Uncle John Sapp was a gentleman from my memories of him. I run into past friends, students, and colleagues of John and they all have good memories and stories of John. I remember the last time he came to Illinois to visit, sometime in the 80's, we were harvesting. He rode the combine with me and was still very interested in agriculture. Good memories of respect and kindness.

He will be missed. My grandfather was my hero. My John Wayne. He taught me what it meant to be strong. He was very dutiful and if you set your mind to it you can accomplish anything. He taught my brothers and I about patriotism. He displayed his American flag daily. I shared many chess games with him, story books, and woods walks in Michigan. He carved our initials the 3 B's in a hardwood tree, when we were visiting. Then he could remember our visit after we left. We'd visit that tree when we came to visit. Many great memories.
Rest well PapaJon
Love your granddaughter Becky
