Obituary of Dorothy May VanHorne

Dorothy May Van Horne (August 23, 1930-January 22, 2011) Dorothy M. Van Horne was a vibrant, loving, and accepting human being. To friends, she was a loyal confidante and an inspirational spirit. To her family, she was known as the lovable "chickadee", spreading her love and faith with a voice and heart of gold. She was born and raised in Burlington, Iowa, to Fred and Anna Howard. She attended Carthage College in Illinois, where she met her husband, George Van Horne. They had been married sixty years and had a daughter named, Lori Ann. She worked as a teacher's aide in Northbrook, Illinois. She later moved to Clearwater, Florida, furthering her passion for fostering young and creative minds as both a pre-school and pre-kindergarten teacher at Country Daycare and Garden of Peace Lutheran Church. She loved each and every one of her students and took pride in their individual talents. Dorothy's enthusiasm about life affected everyone she encountered. Her presence was magnetic. Along with teaching, Dorothy enjoyed traveling, cooking, treating herself to a glass of wine, shopping, singing, and being with her two grandchildren, Courtney and Timothy. Dorothy was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, where she was able to express her devotion to her God and sing her favorite hymns. Dorothy was a woman of faith and never ceased to have a positive attitude, even in hard times. She was most happy being with her family, laughing and joking. Dorothy was a precious gift that put smiles on many faces, and transformed any situation into a celebration. Come celebrate Dorothy's life with her family at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 5th, 2011, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, followed by an open house at her daughter's home (listed at bottom).
